Safety Net Day

February 21, 2017, 7:30am-1:30pm
at the North Carolina State Legislative Building

About 1.1 million NC adults are without health insurance; many more are underinsured and medically vulnerable. Safety net providers (e.g. community health centers, local health departments and free clinics) help to provide quality, cost effective care for this population and also help to reduce the use of expensive hospital emergency rooms. However, this year they face significant reductions in the funding that helps them operate.

The purpose of Safety Net Day, presented by NC Community Health Center Association, the NC Association of Free & Charitable Clinics, and the NC Association of Local Health Directors, in partnership with The Foundation for Health Leadership & Innovation’s NC Rural Health Leadership Alliance, is to inform the NC legislature about the importance of health organizations in North Carolina that serve the uninsured and underserved.

Safety Net Day will kick off with a legislative breakfast to engage members of the NC general assembly. Then, stakeholders from safety net sites and programs will meet with legislators throughout the day. The day will close with a lunch where all involved can share lessons learned.
