Eva Clayton Delivers Opening Remarks at 50th Anniversary Celebration of the National Health Law Program

You know you’re pretty important when former President Obama sends a video to congratulate you on your anniversary.

October 30th was a special night as dignitaries, business people, and community leaders gathered in Chapel Hill to raise their glasses in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the National Health Law Program.

NCCARE360’s Georgina Dukes joined FHLI’s Anne Thomas and Carla Obiol as they honored one of the evening’s speakers, former Congresswoman Eva Clayton.

Eva Clayton was the first African–American woman to represent North Carolina in Congress and the state’s first black Representative since 1901. Throughout her career, she has worked to protect the interests of those not in power, especially the residents of rural North Carolina, and to call attention to the economic inequalities affecting African Americans nationally.

In addition to her long list of public service posts, Ms. Clayton served on the FHLI Board and was an avid supporter of FHLI’s Jim Bernstein Community Health Leadership Fellows program.
