We asked Carla a few questions to get to know her better.
Q. Where are you from and how did you end up in North Carolina?
I am proud to be a North Carolina native. I grew up in Western Harnett County and attended East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. After graduating, I moved to Raleigh and have been living in Wake County for over 30 years. My husband, John, and I moved to Fuquay Varina sixteen years ago and have raised our two daughters in the area. I love calling North Carolina home!
Q. What drew you to the Foundation for Health Leadership & Innovation (or this line of work)?
The Foundation for Health Leadership & Innovation is a well-respected organization and is recognized as a leader in supporting programs that strive to improve health outcomes for individuals and communities. During my career I worked in programs with the mission of informing and assisting senior citizens, disabled persons, and individuals to understand and navigate health insurance products and systems. I understand how important good health and healthcare is to individuals, families, and the entire community, so I am eager to continue this work at FHLI.
Q. What type of organizations have you worked for in the past?
I worked in state government with the North Carolina Department of Insurance for 32 years and at the American Heart Association for 23 months as a coalition campaign manager.
Q. What are you excited for in this position?
I look forward to bringing my passion and expertise to the FHLI team and look forward to being involved in the great work being done to improve the health care of North Carolinians.
Q. What do you like to do for fun/ in your free time?
My priority is my family, so most of my free time is usually spent with my husband, John, and daughters, Alex and Mary. This usually involves trying out a new restaurant, attending a play or concert, or hanging out at home. We enjoy the beach, the mountains, and all things North Carolina.
